This is the first part of a VFX course series, where we lay the foundation for working with effects. Future parts will cover more complex techniques like rigid body dynamics, cloth simulation, advanced fluid simulations, and compositing. But we’re starting with the very magic of the particle system!
We’ll begin with the absolute basics: breaking down the logic of how the particle system works, its settings, and its interaction with force fields. You’ll understand how to control emitters, physics, and particle behavior, building a solid foundation for creating any effect.
Theory is immediately reinforced with practice. Together, we’ll create over 10 different effects:
- Natural Phenomena: Realistic snowfall, volumetric smoke, and air dispersion.
- Dynamic Effects: Sparks, confetti, and fluid simulation using particles.
- Magic and Fantasy: The famous Doctor Strange portal and an object disintegration effect.
- Complex Systems: Bubbles for a drink, crowd simulation, and much more.
Special attention is given to working with particle materials – after all, it’s the texture that determines whether viewers see simple white dots or actual fire, smoke, and magic.
This course is perfect for beginner 3D artists, motion designers, and anyone looking to level up their VFX skills. A basic familiarity with the Blender interface is enough – you’ll learn the rest through hands-on practice.
